Would you like to know more words in English? This is part of our series of activities to help you build your vocabulary. You will learn words to help you in many places such as the post office, job centre and hospital. There are also words to help you to do things in the UK such as making online payments.

Do you have children who go to primary school? This unit will help you learn some new words used in school.
Please read ‘Preparation and downloads’ first and then complete the activities. Start by learning new words in activity one, then practise using them in activities two to four.

This is part of our series of dictations, where you can listen to someone speaking and try to write down everything that you hear. Doing lots of dictations regularly will not only develop your general listening skills, but will also help you improve your spelling and punctuation.

In this activity, the dictation is based on some advice for a young person if he or she is being bullied at school.

Would you like to listen to English and understand more?  This is part of our series of activities to help you build your listening skills.  You will hear recordings about things you will need in your everyday life such as talking to your children’s teacher, going to the post office and talking to the school nurse.

Do you have children at school? Do you sometimes talk to your children’s teacher? Do you find it difficult? The man in the picture is Ben's maths teacher. We have recorded him talking about one of his students (Ben is not the child's real name). Listen and see if you think Ben is doing well or not.

After you have done all the exercises you can download the transcript and check any difficult words in your dictionary.

Taking a gap year between school and uni is quite common in the UK, and there are lots of different ways to spend your time. Here you can read about some of the things that students do in their gap years. You can also answer some questions to check your understanding and do some phrasal verb practice.

What sort of preparation do you think is necessary to play in the Barclays Premier League? Well, you have to train and work on your football skills, but what else should you know? Well, you could earn a lot of money, so you need to manage it. And there are health issues like drugs and alcohol that you should be aware of. Also, you might decide on another career and you need to know about the opportunities. It’s all quite complex, and the clubs have to help their young players. Read more about it here.
