Some words lose a final ‘e’ (e.g. hope > hoping). But some words keep the ‘e’ (e.g. hope > hopeful). Do you know the spelling rules for when to lose the final ‘e’?

Write down any new words that you learn in groups. For example, all the –ment words, all the –ful words.

Remember that most spelling rules are not true 100% of the time! There are always some exceptions! For example, words ending ‘ee’ don’t lose the final ‘e’ (see > seeing).
