Internet Safety: Parental advice

It is worrying when your children look at the wrong videos or the wrong pictures on the internet. Here you will see advice on how to stop this happening.

Keep your computer clean

When you search the internet, you sometimes find the wrong things, and sometimes horrible things. If your son was finding bad things on the internet, what would you say to him?

Write three things that you would say to him, then look at the advice in the middle of the video A Guide to Online Safety – File downloading (BBC) and see if they have the same ideas

There is a funny scene with a boy, a dog puppet and a laptop which starts after one minute, and then the advice starts at 1 minute 40 seconds and ends at three minutes in.

Some ideas for advice from parents to children about file downloading are:

You shouldn’t open strange files

You should always ask a computer’s owner before you download anything.

You should not use file sharing sites.

You shouldn’t download films and music if you don’t pay – because it’s stealing.

If something on the computer makes you feel embarrassed or ashamed, you should just tell an adult.
