So, if I was giving advice to a student who was interested in studying, an overseas student that was interested in studying at a British university, I think the most important thing for them would be to match, not just the course, obviously the course, but also the university, to what they’re interested in and the type of person they are. I’m not just talking about academic aspects but I’m also talking about social needs and whether they want to live in a city, whether they want to live in a rural part of England, or whatever.
I think it’s important they do a lot of research, and there are a lot of areas where they can research, apart from the university’s website, which is the obvious source of information. There are publications available and there are also a lot of forums and so-called alternative information, sometimes provided by students or ex-students or students’ unions about universities. I would also say that if they can get the opportunity, one of the best things, best ways of finding out about a university is to actually go and visit the university. Try and talk to the academic staff, if possible. They’re not always available, but if you push a little bit you can usually get some sort of access. But, there are also other people that you can talk to, or just go to the canteen and get into conversation with some students that are already studying there to get an impression of that place.
Did Roger give you any new ideas about how to choose a university?
