In this lesson, students will read and talk about balanced diets and learn how to interpret the nutritional information tables on food packaging. As a result, students will be more able to make healthier food choices when food shopping.

Topic:  Eating a balanced diet and understanding nutritional information on food packaging

Aims:

  • To develop students’ ability to speed read
  • To develop students’ ability to talk about balanced diet
  • To expand students’ vocabulary for describing what food contains
  • To help students read nutritional information on food packaging

Time: 90 minutes

Tip – bring a multi-pack of small breakfast cereal boxes (empty or full) to the class.  Encourage students to bring in their own empty food packaging in advance for the final task.
