Memories

This lesson focuses on the theme of memory, and there is work on collocation and idioms. The lesson takes an integrated approach to allow for practice in all four skills.

ESOL learners using a computer

Using Glogster for creating interactive online posters

An activity where students create an interactive poster in groups using the web application Glogster.

Role play

A role play activity that allows students to decide the outcome.

The phone rang: essay planning

An activity to help students plan their writing in a creative way.

Strange contraptions

A group work speaking activity for higher level learners. Students have to design their own absurd machine for doing a very simple task.

Learning to listen

Perhaps the most important skill connected with socialising is to ‘shut up and listen'. This lesson can help students to become active listeners.

Building relationships

When we think of negotiations, we tend to focus on the hard negotiating skills connected with bargaining. In fact, many professional negotiators will confirm that the most important skill is effective relationship building.

Registering with an agency

This lesson is related to employability and focusses on the language and skills needed to understand a website which describes the process of registering with an employment agency.  Learners also practise completing a registration form.

Reading news

News

In this lesson, students will develop their vocabulary to talk about the news. They will also be given the opportunity to discuss the news with their classmates and retell a newsworthy story that is important to them.

How green are you?

Learners look at the impact that they have on the environment by undertaking two surveys and then summarising their findings in a report.
