Parcel delivery

'Someone at the door - parcel delivery', is part of Unit 1 of English in my home. These resources aim to give learners confidence and equip them with the language necessary to deal with situations where unexpected callers arrive at the door.

Places in the town

Unit 1 is about places in an urban area. It develops all language skills and can be used in ESOL literacy classes. Learners use numbers, letters and word recognition to create a simple key or label places on the map.

 

Li's story

Li’s story is a resource for all beginner ESOL learners, including those with basic literacy needs.  Learners will develop narrative ideas, read and follow a story about a mother whose child is taken ill at school.  They will be able to participate in a range of learning activities which develop early language and reading skills.

Tom's story

Tom’s story is a resource for all beginner ESOL learners, including those with basic literacy needs. Learners will develop an everyday story from pictures and develop their listening and speaking skills as they do so.  Opportunities are given for role play and drilling of simple, functional language.

Driving documents - court reports

This resource consists of a reading activity and comprehension. The reading activity is based on court reports printed in a local newspaper for two people caught without the correct driving documents. There is also a grammar exercise focussing on using the passive.

This resource is designed to help learners to find out about the documents they need to drive legally in the UK. The resource consists of a short reading followed by a comprehension exercise and two grammar exercises.

This resource gives learners further practice in reading and understanding the documents they need to drive in the UK.

What's happening in the town?

Unit 3 is about what happens at places in town. It develops all language skills and can be used in ESOL literacy classes. Learners listen to sound clips and discuss what they can hear and where, build sentences and identify verb-noun collocations. Learners also develop simple transactional dialogues such as buying food in a café, a ticket on the bus, or paying at the checkout.
