Adult ESOL learners come to the ESOL classroom as competent users of their own and often other languages. As ESOL teachers we may recognise our learners’ other languages as a relevant resource to draw upon, but we are also aware that our learning environments are places where the main focus is on developing our learners’ skills in English.
This is the third of three modules which provide an introduction to teaching ‘basic literacy’ to ESOL learners. The first one focused on starting points for working with learners with basic literacy needs, the second one focused on developing reading skills and this one focusses on developing writing skills.
