Housing in the UK

This lesson is about housing in the UK and is based on Housing materials from both the NIACE Citizenship materials for ESOL and the ESOL Nexus learner website. The lesson provides an overview of the types of accommodation available in the UK and develops the learner's ability to ask and answer questions, listen for detail and fill in a housing form.

Describing an image: a house

Listen to Penny describing a photo of a living room in a house and the practise yourself. The language focus here is modal verbs of deduction.

Job roles and responsibilities

This lesson is about identifying different job titles and their associated duties. It provides learners with practice at using full sentences to talk about a job.

Yesterday

In this lesson students practise forming, asking and answering ‘wh’ questions in the past tense. They play two games and do a mingling activity.

From picture to story

This activity mainly provides writing practice but also practises question forms and encourages creativity. It is a student-centred activity which encourages collaboration and teamwork.
