Housing in the UK

This lesson is about housing in the UK and is based on Housing materials from both the NIACE Citizenship materials for ESOL and the ESOL Nexus learner website. The lesson provides an overview of the types of accommodation available in the UK and develops the learner's ability to ask and answer questions, listen for detail and fill in a housing form.

Controversial statements

This free-speaking activity is a great way to start a lesson. ‘ARM exercises’ is simply short for Accept, Reject or Modify statements.

Vision off - YouTube technique

This YouTube activity really gets your students thinking creatively. A short film is played for the students, but they can’t see the scene, they can only hear it.

Encouraging migration

In this speaking activity students have to look at how to encourage migration to an imaginary city. They look at a number of projects to help support this and have to agree how to allocate a budget.  The activity is based on themes from the British Council OPENCities project www.opencities.eu
