Reading a note

This is a story of a person who worked hard to make his dream come true.

Reading a note

This resource is aimed at learner who are considering becoming self-employed. It also explores the language needed by a self-employed cleaners and taxi-driver so it will also be useful for learners who work in these areas. In this section, learners develop their reading skills and look at the language of note writing.

Developing your career

This resource is aimed primarily at learners who are already working in retail or who want to find out more about working in the sector, but will appeal to any learners who need to talk about processes, prices or career development. The resource uses authentic sound recordings as a springboard for practice in listening, speaking, writing and numeracy skills within this context. 

 

Looking for a job

Here are some adverts for part-time jobs for younger people. Read them then try the exercises.

Registering with an agency

This lesson is related to employability and focusses on the language and skills needed to understand a website which describes the process of registering with an employment agency.  Learners also practise completing a registration form.

Reading job adverts

This lesson develops learners’ reading skills and enables learners to understand important information contained in job adverts.  They are presented with three simple job adverts; waiter, cleaner and delivery driver.  

Going to work

Going to work aims to provide beginner ESOL learners with some basic vocabulary and skills to access work along with opportunity to practise the four skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing.
