This lesson is about buying and selling items on online auction sites, such as eBay and eBid. It provides students with the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the vocabulary and typical format of item listings on such sites. They will closely read and then write their own item listings, using adjectives and persuasive language.

Using Vocaroo to develop speaking skills

In this lesson, students will learn how to use the Vocaroo website to record and listen to themselves. They will learn how to send Vocaroo links to their teacher and themselves and will develop as independent learners through self-correction.

Why do we do that?

An activity where students reflect on what they do in the classroom and why, which leads to a discussion about classroom practices.

Role play

A role play activity that allows students to decide the outcome.

The soap opera

In this activity, learners create their own characters to develop their own soap opera.

The holiday maze

A reading and speaking activity where students have to agree on holiday plans.

Strange contraptions

A group work speaking activity for higher level learners. Students have to design their own absurd machine for doing a very simple task.

Stop, go back dictation

A dictation activity where learners control the teacher's dictation.

The new student role-play

A role play activity where students practising exchanging personal information.

An interview with Sir Peter

This is an activity based on the true story of Merhan Karimi Nasseri, a man who was unable to leave Charles de Gaulle airport. This became a popular story in the press and was later used as the basis for the Tom Hank's film "Terminal".
