This lesson is about buying and selling items on online auction sites, such as eBay and eBid. It provides students with the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the vocabulary and typical format of item listings on such sites. They will closely read and then write their own item listings, using adjectives and persuasive language.

Housing in the UK

This lesson is about housing in the UK and is based on Housing materials from both the NIACE Citizenship materials for ESOL and the ESOL Nexus learner website. The lesson provides an overview of the types of accommodation available in the UK and develops the learner's ability to ask and answer questions, listen for detail and fill in a housing form.

Students read reviews of popular sitcoms, then watch a clip of a sitcom and create their own reviews.

An interview with Sir Peter

This is an activity based on the true story of Merhan Karimi Nasseri, a man who was unable to leave Charles de Gaulle airport. This became a popular story in the press and was later used as the basis for the Tom Hank's film "Terminal".

Police emergency

This resource is taken from the Be safe UK series of resources which aims to give learners the confidence needed to be able to call for help in the event of an emergency.

The noisy television

This resource is part of 'English in my home', which aims to give ESOL learners the confidence and the language to deal with situations they may encounter in their homes.  in this lesson, Arjun's neighbour compalins about the television. Learners practise complaining politely and dealing with complaints.

Writing a note

This resource is aimed at learners who are considering becoming self-employed. It also explores the language needed by a self-employed cleaners and taxi-driver so it will also be useful for learners who work in these areas. In this section, learners explore the language of note writing further and write their own note.
