Raising money for charity

Students will find out about charity shops and explore ways to raise money for charity. A central focus of this lesson is the valuable work of The Ruth Hayman Trust.

My neighbourhood

In this lesson, learners watch a short video about a typical British neighbourhood. Learners take part in meaningful speaking, listening and develop their language through collaborative activities based on the video. Particular focus is given to vocabulary and revision of the present simple tense.

Describe a picture

In this lesson, students use their drawing and speaking skills to practise the present continuous form. Drawing adds fun to the activity and may allow less confident students to excel, especially if they are talented artists. An optional writing activity at the end helps consolidate learning.

Presenting a personal history

This lesson focuses on the past simple, past continuous and past perfect tenses in the context of biographies and culminates in students giving a short presentation about a famous person.

A birthday party

This lesson is based on a video about a child attending a birthday party in the UK.

Talking about the future

In this simple lesson students will have a chance to speak freely about different aspects of their future life, while the teacher guides them (with the students' help) to the best available grammar forms in order to do so.

Yesterday

In this lesson students practise forming, asking and answering ‘wh’ questions in the past tense. They play two games and do a mingling activity.

Improve your health and fitness

This lesson is about getting fit and healthy. It provides learners with listening practice by watching a video about someone’s plans to get fit and healthy. It also provides practice of using ‘going to’ to talk about future plans.

Writing personal information for a job application

This lesson is about writing a personal statement on a job application form. It provides learners with practice of writing a personal statement and practice of regular and irregular past tense forms.

A job interview

This lesson is based on a short video, which shows someone going for a job interview. Learners develop their knowledge about applying for jobs and the interview process. They will develop their listening skills, learn new vocabulary, revise the past simple tense as well as take part in a mock job interview.
