Modern technology

This lesson is about modern technology and the effect it has had on people’s lives in recent years. A reading text provides the main focus of the lesson and the skill of speed-reading is developed. Students are encouraged to identify the meaning of vocabulary within the context and to focus on the pronunciation of regular past simple verbs.

Social norms in the UK

This lesson provides students with the opportunity to discuss and read about UK social norms. It then supplies them with a structured approach to writing and evaluating complex sentences on this topic.

Six Book Challenge

This lesson shows learners how to take part in the Six Book Challenge run by The Reading Agency, a charity whose mission is to give everyone an equal chance in life by helping people become confident and enthusiastic readers. 

Is it an emergency?

This resource is an introduction to the Be safe UK series of resources which aims to give learners the confidence needed to be able to call for help in the event of an emergency.

Police emergency

This resource is taken from the Be safe UK series of resources which aims to give learners the confidence needed to be able to call for help in the event of an emergency.

Fire safety 3: bedtime checks

This resource helps low level learners to learn vocabulary and read a simple text about the fire safety checks you should make before you go to bed.

Reading a note

This resource is aimed at learner who are considering becoming self-employed. It also explores the language needed by a self-employed cleaners and taxi-driver so it will also be useful for learners who work in these areas. In this section, learners develop their reading skills and look at the language of note writing.

Developing your career

This resource is aimed primarily at learners who are already working in retail or who want to find out more about working in the sector, but will appeal to any learners who need to talk about processes, prices or career development. The resource uses authentic sound recordings as a springboard for practice in listening, speaking, writing and numeracy skills within this context. 

 

Supervising: work orders

Work orders is suitable for learners who are working or plan to work as cleaning supervisors. It helps learners to understand work order paperwork that they may have to read at work.

Healthy eating

In this lesson, students will read and talk about balanced diets and learn how to interpret the nutritional information tables on food packaging. As a result, students will be more able to make healthier food choices when food shopping.
