Four Warned

This lesson is based on an a book from the Quick Reads series called ‘Four warned’ and was written Jeffery Archer. The extract of the book that is used in this lesson focuses on a dramatic car chase. Learners have the opportunity to develop their reading, vocabulary and storytelling skills by using both online and classroom-based activities.

Weddings in the UK

This lesson is about weddings in the UK and in other countries the learners know. This lesson is aimed beginner ESOL learners who can read and write at a basic level. Learners will learn useful vocabulary so they can discuss weddings and they will have the opportunity to read a text aloud and complete some comprehension tasks.

Improving your reading with Quick Reads books

Would you like to encourage your students to read for pleasure by introducing them to a wonderful series of popular books? This lesson introduces the students to Quick Reads, which are accessible books for emerging readers.

How your MP can help you

This lesson enables students to identify national and local MPs, explore the role of MPs in the UK’s political system, find out how to contact a local MP and practise contacting them. The lesson uses materials from the NIACE ‘Citizenship for ESOL Learners’ pack.

Big numbers

Lots of our students have problems with big numbers. Sometimes they don’t know where to say ‘and’. Sometimes they confuse numbers like ‘sixteen’ and ‘sixty’. In this lesson students revise big numbers in a fun way. First they play a guessing game, then they play Bingo! They finish with a pair work jigsaw reading activity.

Registering with an agency

This lesson is related to employability and focusses on the language and skills needed to understand a website which describes the process of registering with an employment agency.  Learners also practise completing a registration form.

Going to work

Going to work aims to provide beginner ESOL learners with some basic vocabulary and skills to access work along with opportunity to practise the four skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing.
